Past Projects

Reversing biodiversity loss is urgent yet complex.

Real solutions require thinking outside the box. That’s why we take an interdisciplinary approach to design and test solutions that contribute to a shift towards a sustainable and equitable future.

We are located at Carleton University on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg people. As grateful guests on this beautiful land, we are committed to respecting and embracing multiple worldviews as we tackle biodiversity loss together.

We focus on a broad range of conservation projects, from protecting natural soundscapes to making cities more bird friendly to exploring the link between human health and biodiversity.

Our goal is to make the world a better place - for humans and nature.

Meet the Team

“Through our curiosity and imagination we can try to step into perspectives outside our own. This profound gift comes with heavy responsibility… it falls on us to marshall all our ingenuity to protect other creatures and their unique ways of experiencing our shared world.”

- Ed Young

Code of Conduct

“The very Earth that sustains us is being destroyed to fuel injustice. It’s not just changes to policy that we need - but also changes to the heart.”
— Robin Wall-Kimmerer 'Braiding Sweetgrass'

In the Biodiversity Conservation Solutions lab, we are committed to dismantling prejudiced influences in the scientific community. We are constantly unlearning and learning to be better allies and to amplify voices that have been silenced for too long.

We recognize that the pursuit of effective conservation will require using a social justice lens and co-creating solutions with Indigenous peoples. This is why we use relationship-based approaches at every level of our work.
